It's Finished!!

Well we have been working hard this week trying to finish the sideboard. Our next step was to  find out how to stick the wood together.
We tried with dowel but that left a lip, so Steve had a talk to his dad who suggested biscuits which are flat and put in after cutting a groove with a router and the three pieces of wood stuck together with glue. They worked really well.

While that was setting we worked on the rest of it. We thought we would need to stain the beading so when it was painted the pattern would show through.
With at least 2 trips to Bunnings every day we were pleased when we found some stain in the shed.
Next step was to paint the whole frame.

When we painted the beading, it started to crack. Great!! We like it!

After the top was stuck together we sanded it back and put on three coats of wood sealer, sanding between coats.

The drawers were the next on the list, a quick paint and the handles polished a little bit and put back on.

Then it was time to put it all together.
Remember the before pic's.
And the final result

We are extremely happy with the results and quite pleased with ourselves, we think we did a pretty good job! Thanks heaps to Vicki for giving us the sideboard and a chance to learn a bit about woodworking.

Yes I am so glad that it didn't end up in the skip, as one son suggested was the best place for it!
