It was going to be a beautiful sunny weekend so we headed for Cervantes. The first day involved the usual tasks of gardening, mowing the lawns and getting the boat ready for the weekend.
Our first day out on the boat was perfect.
It was just the three of us Ray, Stephen and myself. In the photo above we were trawling hoping to catch a Mackerel but unfortunately all we got was a Tuna. The water was so nice we decided to go out to the second bank which is roughly 22 kilometres from the coast. We got lots of nibbles but only managed to pull in 3 Snapper, 1 each.
After a couple of hours the wind started to come up so we headed for home. I was getting pretty wet sitting at the back but it diidn't really bother me because it had been a warm day.
When we arrived back at the beach Ray went to get the car and Steve was holding the boat. He pulled it around so I could get off the back. He said "Yeah you'll be right, it's not deep". So I stepped of the back and went straight to the bottom on my bum. Unfortunately I had my iPhone on me, so thats then end of that phone. Going into the Apple store tomorrow to see if they'll replace it without it costing a fortune. We will see!!
Stephens kids (apart from Paula) and their partners arrived a couple of days after us ready for some serious fishing. They all did exceptionally well, especially Renae. She always manages to catch a few Dhu fish. Kym caught a good size Dhuie as well (there's a bit of competition between the two girls). Lucky they took the girls really!

The photo below was the catch for the second day. They caught the bag limit each day.
Kym and Nik
Renae and Paul
Only 2 Dhuies per boat per day can be bought in...so that's why there are only two in each photo. If more are caught they need to be returned to the ocean using a release weight taking them back down to the bottom otherwise they wouldn't survive.
Nik had his first lesson on how to fillet fish and did an outstanding job. Always good to have more than one person filleting because it can sometimes take hours.
Renae scaling a small snapper ready to be baked when she gets home.
Owen was there also and caught his fair share as well.
It's quite busy when they get home as we vacuum pack all the fish and then freeze it and everyone shares in the catch.
We may be going back during the easter break to try our luck again.
