Elliots birthday had me scratching my head for something special to give him. So this weekend was spent making him a coffee table/tray.
We started out with an old lid from a tea chest that I scavenged from the neighbours about 12 months ago. When I got it I had thought about a table thing for Elliot, so it has worked out nice.
This is how it started out....
We had to fill some holes....
...grind most of the nails down to make it safe.
Steve gave it a good rub over with the belt sander to smooth off the surface...
.....and then add a bit of 'beachy' coloured paint.
Waiting for the paint to dry was a pain so we got the heat gun out to give us a hand.

....and then started stencilling
Stephen drilled holes for the handles and...
...to make it neat we counter sank the holes in the back to hold the knots.
