ANZAC DAY
Captain John Henry Jose 1868 - 1942
Lieutenant
(Lt) John Henry Jose, 6 Field Artillery Brigade, Brigade Ammunition Column, of
West Leederville, WA. He was an Architectural modeler by profession and a
member of a militia unit, the 38th Battery Australia Fortress Artillery for 24
years prior to enlisting in the AIF in September 1915 at the age of 47. Lt Jose
embarked from Melbourne on board HMAT Persic (A34) on 22 November 1915. Also on
board and in the same unit was his son 8599 Driver Ernest Jose. Lt Jose served
on the Western Front from June 1916 with the 5th Brigade Artillery Column and
the 2nd Divisional Artillery. He was promoted to the rank of Captain in
September 1917. Captain Jose returned to Australia on 13th March 1918. He died
in Perth in December 1942 aged 74. His son Ernest Jose also survived the war,
returning home in June 1919. (taken from Australian National Archives)
The Jose's are Stephen's side of the family.
A record 50,000 people attended the dawn service at Kings Park in Perth today.
I made Anzac biscuits, Steve did a bit of gardening and trimmed the Rosemary, so the house is smelling lovely. Then we watched the Anzac day footy.
