Today we went to the Holocaust Memorial. What a wonderful place the architecture is different, and very beautiful.
The blocks you see above correspond with the ceiling inside the memorial. Under every block is a space.

We decided to get headphones for this memorial as we were a bit over trying to read around and over peoples shoulders after the Checkpoint Charlie museum. We were so glad we did because it put you in a different place and could concentrate better.
One of the rooms which was called Room of Demensions was quite dark and had lit panels in the floor with personal written accounts of what had happened to people during the Holocaust. One I remember was a woman who had written a postcard and thrown it out the window of a train, a farmer found it and put a stamp on it and posted it and it reached the person it was addressed to and they gave it to the museum...amazing!!
The next room was the Room of Families. This had photographs some even had film and personal documents of the people and their families who were exterminated.
The last room was the Room of Names, here the names of the Jews with their birth year and year of death is projected around the room. Reading out the names and biographies of all the victims would take approximately six years, seven months and 27 days....
When we left we were on the hunt for a map of Europe...what a chore, no-one had them! Apparently only one place, Dussman! Yay!!
We walked down to Berlin Cathedral over the Spree River and after a drink a bite to eat and a bit of rain we headed out to the suburbs to find The East Side Gallery, another part of the wall that is still standing.Apparently there was a competition for artists to cover this part of the wall. So off we went and what seemed like hours later, we found it.
