Today we touched snow...

Day 7

Wow what a day!!       When we got up this morning it had been snowing on the mountain.

First we went to the Styx Forest and saw the 'Big Tree', the 'Bigger Tree' was a bit too far to walk and it was starting to rain so we gave that a miss. We figured it would just be a larger version of the Big Tree.
To take this photo they have built this thing (below) so you can lean back and look up. Pretty cool we thought.
Then we took a walk in the rain forest down to the Styx River.
On the way back Steve pointed out lots of mushrooms because they are one of my favourite things to photograph. Then he had to wait for me to have my fill.
This area is soo beautiful, it's hard to capture it in a photo, very lush and green. Those ferns are huge!
And then....the highlight of the day, maybe even the whole trip. We decided to find out if we could get up to the snow. Found out we could by going to Mt Field National Park. Which was not far from here. Did we get excited or what?? Neither of us had ever touched soft fluffy snow...we were like little kids!
Why not eat it?
Stephen climbing....
Our 2 mins effort to make a snowman. He was about 30cm high.

This is very unusual for this time of year.  A local said she had never seen it snow this much in February. We were just very lucky I spose!

At the bottom of Mt Field we walked to Russell Falls. Flowing a bit faster than usual. It was hard taking a photo as the spray was getting on the lens.

Ater all this we thought we had better go down to the ponds behind the cottages and see if we could spy a platypus....but we were out of luck...must have used it all up with the snow.

Great pics once again Kerry, I can see the snowman pic as your Xmas card this year. I promise plenty of snow when you are here.
